This video covers the machining of a guitarneck which fits the guitarbody of the previous video. Everything is drawn in Fusion360 and machined on my DIY machine running bCNC on a RPi. I made 2 versions of this neck, a straight headstock and an angled version. In this video the straight version is covered. I've tried to improve on cam strategies for machining guitar bodies. Now I am using different tools to get the machining time down to about 30 minutes per side, including a long shaping process. Also I go into detail on how I setup each strategy in Fusion360 and how I exported the files to my CNC machine. You will also see the actual machining of it on my DIY CNC machine as well as you will see...

      The next step is obviously making CAM strategies. There are many to find on YT, a few of mine you can find on my channel. Like this one for the body: ua-cam.com/video/sY3E7iepzos/v-deo.html Or this one for the neck: ua-cam.com/video/FBx4x2T-iIY/v-deo.htmlsi=G2YxOqTW08nZLGfx For the fretboard find inspiration here: ua-cam.com/video/WnnXUCbxTII/v-deo.htmlsi=W_sfh87MFQTnTyH_ But as I said, there are more ways to get it done. Have fun!!

      Not really sure what you mean by “a a more pronounced volute”. Butif I understand correctly you could try making a plane with a curve (as I did for the cutout for the backside) and slice the bottom part of the headstock. After that reshape the neck connection. Hope this helps!

    Note:: when creating the loft for the compound fretboard, i had to remove the fillet from earlier in the build to make it work, awesome video by the way!! edit- another snag i ran into on mine was when i went to offset the face of the neck to join it to headstock i had to define it as a new offset in the options, i also had to constrain the distance from headstock to the fretboard to keep it from moving when offsetting the face of the neck

    Good man, I like the way you explain your moves and I think your video is instructive for all those who are hesitating whether to go into guitar building or manufacturing. I never used Fusion 360, I preferred to have fun with Rhinoceros 5, and I wasn't particularly specific, like you, I was more focused on a unique headstock that would distinguish my guitars from the "big brothers" and avoid lawyers knocking on the door. I almost bought a CNC router, even my wife supported me, she said: it's better than "holding the bar" in the bar. People like you make Yt a wonderful place to spend an afternoon, learn something, and make your day. Thank you.

I am new to this, I have a new CnC machine this video has helped me more than any others on the net, so valuable. All I need to know now is how to set up the specs for machine operation. I like to set the neck back about 2 degrees is there a way you can show how to do this? Also in creating an arch top do you have a video on how to do so? Kind of like Les Paul or PRS guitars. I watched other videos but they are not very explanatory as your video. Thank you again

    • @Audiohotshot
      @Audiohotshot Рік тому

      My solution for drawing a setback of 2 degree's would be by keeping the neck level, but drawing the body onto an angled plane. But I've not tried that, hopefully someone else has a tried-and-tested solution for you! In regards to drawing an archtop; I like to work with splines, SURFACE and lofts for more fluent shapes; gives me good control over curves. But i've seen people drawing it with FORM and MESH as well, I guess it is just what you happen to like better.

    • @Audiohotshot

      Hmmm that error does not sound familiar to me... sorry. A guick google suggested you have a bunch of different faces crossing each other making it impossible to perform the split. You might check whether that is the case. Closing the gap in the cover could also be performed by pulling (hit Q) the inner walls of the gap to bridge it in a few steps. To finetune the curve you might need to clean up the top surface somewhat, but the gap is closed.. Hope this helps.

    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledges. A really amazing tutorial that for sure will be very valuable in my future buildings. I`d like to ask a question, for example for the headstock, if I have the design made in AutoCAD and save it as a DXF, could I use it instead of having to draw it with an sketch in fusion 360? Thanks in advance.

      I'd say that should work, although I did not try it. I am curious to know if that works for you. I can imagine other people having the same question...

    After the first view: The distance of the holes in the headstock, the form is strange to a soft line body, the straight edge is to deep...

      Please do not take the shown dimensions and distance as 'the truth', it is not what the video is about; I'm sure you can do better! :-) I highly recommend carefully measuring every bit of hardware, even better: draw the hardware in Fusion360 as well (for example that is what I did for my latest design). Also: all dimensions strongly depend on the hardware you purchase, that is why I do not recommend using my dimensions at all. You might be using single coils and so on, different width of trem or nut and so on. Hope this helps. Have fun designing!
